Baan Triangle

400 sqm, Nakorn Pathom, Thailand

This residence is designed to be a family gathering house, out of but not too far from Bangkok metropolitan area where all the relatives live nearby. We commence the project with specific requirements. First of all, the master plan must be simple and user friendly; especially for the elderly. And, there must be 2 separated houses with courtyard. Large kitchen space which connects to main living and dining area, large terraces, garage with 4 cars parking, and to be party friendly.

The conceptual idea is very straight forward; "Functions, Connection and Orientation". Firstly, 1.5 rai land 2 houses with 400sqm. of interior space comprise with 2 livings and dining which connected to terraces, 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 powder rooms and the kitchen; which is the heart of this house. Because the family loves to cook and spend most of the time in the kitchen to prepare meals, receiving family and friends is important. This is a very generous living dining kitchen space that connects to each other with 6 meters height sloped ceiling. As for the rest of the houses, all rooms are designed to be simple but modest. This also reflects through the house shape. Anonym wants to make 2 houses to be simple but modest and be remarkable with 45 degree slope symmetry triangle roof shape. This design is also suitable for local climate. Since this residence was built, it’s been called “the triangle house” by the neighborhood. Interior design is simply modest with only 3 main color palettes; white, grey and natural white oak. Focusing in functions, space planning and zoning arrangement, not in luxurious or precious design. The land shape is also triangle, that is a bad Feng-Shui. However we have natural existing pond, so we decided to enlarge it and make the land to be rectangular shape where the houses located. The rest of outdoor area dedicated to the garden mostly with edible plants, fruits and local herbs.

Secondly, the connections of all areas are very important. All spaces must be physical and visible. Since we have 2 houses, we make them to be” L” and “I “shape with inner court, covered walkway around and share garage that leads to each house. This court view can be seen from most of the rooms. Living space and terrace of both houses are facing each other, visibly connected by large folding glass doors which mostly been opened during daytime. From the second living area we can look though and see the back pound.

Lastly the orientation, in order to reduce the contact to the west. Both houses' service areas are facing west side and all bedrooms are in east side with main living space in the center. Large opening provided good ventilation for both houses in all seasons.
